A Better Day Than Yesterday!

Working on my math homework after school

First off I want to thank everybody who took some time to comment on my last post. I really, really appreciate it. When I was feeling a bit sad yesterday it cheered me up to read all of the comments that people left for me. So thanks.

Today was a much, much, much better day. When I woke up in the morning I was still very nervous to go back to school. I was actually really dreading it.

But when I got to school I felt better and didn't even feel too bad when I said goodbye to my Mom.

Once school started we began with some math which I sort of like. Then after math we had PE with Mr. Berrin. I like PE better than math and I like being able to be outside. The only thing is that it is boiling hot outside (and I mean boiling) and we have to run back and forth on a field which makes me totally sweat.

After PE was lunch which was better than yesterday because:

1. I knew where to sit

2. People sat with me

3. My Mom made me a sandwich with my favourite kind of spicy meat

In the afternoon we had LA (language arts) and social studies until 2:55pm and then we got to go outside for recess (which was weird because it was really just the last 10 minutes of class).

My Mom met me after school and we walked back to the apartment. I got to play some video games and then I did my math homework and reading. And after dinner I did this post.

That is all for today!

M.

  1. Hi Max. Good to hear things were better.
It does seem kind of strange that you don't get much of a recess or lunch hour. I would have thought that the teachers would want a break from the kids(!), and all the kids probably want to be running around outside anyway (like you).

Of course, if you have math problems you just can't stand - who you gonna call? Math-Busters!!

Sorry - you might not get that. It's a play on the theme song from the movie "Ghost Busters". Ask your Mum or Dad (or Lisa) to sing it if you are not familiar with it. :)

Anyway, I miss you, so does Aubin. Skype us sometime soon.

  3. Hi Max,
I'm glad you had a better day today. Do you have to learn the Pledge of Allegiance as well as the Star Spangled Banner?
Hope you social studies class was okay. They must study different topics than you did at school here.
Love the blog, it is great to hear all of your news!
    xoxo

  4. Hi max,
Bos, Mabel and I are so glad that you had a better day at school today. Each day will get better as you learn more about the school and make some new friends. This experience is just the same as being an exchange student only you have your Mom and Dad with you. Will you be learning any Spanish at school?
Have fun and don't sweat the small stuff!
We love you. Pa, Bos and Mabel

  5. Hey Max:
Good Skype-ing with you today and glad to hear things are on the upswing. I am digging the uniform...saves on the decision-making first thing in the morning! Any extra-curricular activities at that school? When I was in Grade Five, our school did Fiddler On The Roof. I was a peasant dancer and also in the chorus. Tradition!!!!

  6. Hey Max,

Life gets way easier when you know where to sit and people sit there with you.
    Sounds good all 'round!

  7. Max.

Things have improved for you. This is a good thing. You are very strong to handle these changes so well. In no time at all you will be feeling very comfortable in your new environment. I was 8 when I first moved to Kamloops from Vancouver. My new teacher was a wolf in sheep's clothing and I remember dreading getting out of bed in the morning. You are going to have such great adventures with so many wonderful new friends! I am so envious! BTW - I hated P.E.with a passion so you and I differ there.

    Keep that head held high.

  8. Miles: We looked it up on line and certain school districts have done away with recess because they think it takes away too much from learning. I think kids need to take a break from class every now and then. Don't worry, I have seen Ghost Busters and I will definitely give you a call if I need help.

    Sarolta:Thanks Rolti!

Aubin: Yes, we do need to recite the "Pledge of Allegiance" every day. We also have to minute of silence. As far as social studies, right again Aubin, they do study different stuff. We are studying mapping of the USA right now.

Pa, Bos and Mabel: In fact I am learning Spanish. I started today but I found it quite stressful. Everyone else was speaking spanish but I didn't know what they were saying. I studied with my Mom today and hope it goes tomorrow.

Lisa: There is a Boys and Girls club after school but I just found out about it today and don't know if I will be joining. I will let you know.

Ross: You are right Ross. It is good when people sit with you and you know where to sit.

Leslie: Sometimes things feel better and sometimes worse. Today (Thursday) was a bit of a hard day but hopefully tomorrow will be better. I did get invited to a birthday party on Sunday which is good. PE at this school is pretty fun, why did you hate it at your school so much.

  9. Why did I hate PE so much at my school?

I hated PE so much at my school because I have two left feet, zero interest in any activity that involved sweating and boys would laugh at me whenever I wiped out which was often. Enough said. My current thoughts on acceptable exercise is driving my car to Safeway to buy a Mars Bar.

  10. Can you get a Mars Bar in Miami?

  11. Hi Max! I know you will get more comfortable there, it's always hard to start a new school but at least you're documenting it so it's kind of like you're "investigating" this new school and city and reporting back.

And... what's your favourite spicy meat that your Mom gave you in your sandwich?

  12. Hi Max... "daisy picker" is Cher - I didn't know it would use that alias.
    From Cher and Fred!!!

  13. Fred and Cher: Hi, my Mom told me exactly the same thing about being a secret investigator. I am trying to pretend that but it is not really working.

My favourite spicy meat is the Hot Genoa but I also like the Spicy Soppressata too.
